Box Elder Bugs in Naperville, IL? It's the Sunny Wall

• WHAT YOU SEE IN NAPERVILLE

Naperville's subdivisions went up in the 1990s and 2000s, and the trees planted with them, box elder trees especially, are mature enough now to seed heavily. Every October, the bugs and the beetles that feed on those seeds gather on the sunny south and west walls of the house by the hundreds, then start working their way toward window frames and siding gaps looking for a way to overwinter.
